UZBEKISTAN AND THE UNITED STATES DISCUSS INVESTMENT COOPERATION AND U.S. BUSINESS PARTICIPATION IN PRIVATIZATION

A meeting was held at the State Assets Management Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan with H.E. Jonathan Henick, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Uzbekistan.

The meeting focused on further strengthening trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States, as well as expanding the participation of U.S. businesses in Uzbekistan’s privatization processes.

Director of the State Assets Management Agency Sohibjon Murodov noted that Uzbekistan-U.S. relations have reached a new level in recent years. The meeting also addressed opportunities being created for foreign investors in Uzbekistan, mechanisms for protecting investors’ rights, and ongoing reforms in the field of privatization.

Particular attention was paid to promoting state assets slated for privatization in Uzbekistan among U.S. business circles and potential investors, increasing foreign investors’ interest in these assets, and attracting U.S. companies to investment projects.

In particular, the Agency proposed establishing a targeted mechanism for promoting investment teaser materials and information on major and strategic state assets among leading U.S. companies, industry associations, and major industrial groups.

The Agency also proposed organizing an investment Roadshow in cooperation with the U.S. side for representatives of the U.S. business community, dedicated to Uzbekistan’s new privatization program. The event could include presentations of strategic assets slated for privatization, sector-specific panel sessions, B2G and B2B meetings, as well as information on legal guarantees, tax incentives and investment protection mechanisms.

The sides also discussed partnerships aimed at researching and adapting U.S. best practices for the effective management of state property, as well as promoting joint initiatives.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation aimed at expanding the participation of U.S. investors and businesses in Uzbekistan’s privatization processes, developing new investment projects, and further strengthening investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States.
